Bite Down Hard
For some reason, the
last few shows I've attended have had sparse crowds. I don't know if
it's the economy or what, but it's disappointing. This night was no
different. Far fewer people showed up at this Club Red show than I
expected, which was odd because this was a rare show by one of
Phoenix's very best bands! However, don't get me wrong, the crowd
was fairly decent, just less than I expected on this scorching July
31st.
As soon as Big Cock
took to the stage, though, the energy was electric and palpable. The
band shook up the club with all their best hard rockin
' tunes.
Robert Mason (also of Warrant) belted out the group's innuendo laden
songs like a beast as he strutted around the stage. Mason's throat
searing vocals were accompanied by guitarist David Henzerling, who
manhandled his fretboard like it was a naughty m.i.l.f., while bass
player Colby played his instrument with vibrant intensity. And, what
can I say about drummer John Covington? His nickname, The
Pulverizer, is well earned. The man delivers a truly skull crushing
back beat as he bashes the skins.
The band's energy never
let up. They thundered all night long, giving the audience one hell
of a raunchy ride. Big Cock's onslaught of orgasmic gems included
favorites like “Get a Load of Me”, “Buit for Speed”, “Bad
Motherfucker”, “Stamina”, “Bump and Grind”, “M.I.L.F.”
and many more. At one point Henzerling dipped his fretboard into the
crowd so that Dan Wexler, of the re-united '80s band Icon (of which
Henzerling is also a member), could let his fingers dance along the
strings.
For those who didn't
make it to the show, well they missed out on a fantastic time. Big
Cock rocks you with music you can shake your ass to until closing
time, then pump up the volume with it again when you get home for a
little mattress mambo, until the sun comes up and your hangover comes
home to roost. That's what I call rock 'n roll!

It was April 18th. Anita and I had spent the day in downtown Las Vegas, inlcuding a roller coaster ride at Circus Circus. We headed back to the Santa Fe Station Hotel and Casino, to our room, to get ready for the night. It was great to be staying at the same
hotel where the show was to be held that evening, so all we had to do was ride down the elevator and head to the Chrome nightclub downstairs from our room. After securing a media pass left for me by Greg Polcari (thanks Greg!) of Britny Fox, we made our way into the cool, dark nightclub.
There was a pretty decent crowd on hand, and we arrived just minutes before the band hit the stage. I got out my camera and moved in as close to the stage as possible. Then the band came on.
This was th
e first show of this particular tour, but you wouldn't know it. Sometimes the first show of a tour is a little rough, but not this one. The band was tight. Although Billy Childs is the only original member of the band, he has surrounded himself with some great musicians and an excellent vocalist to fill in the rest of the band.
Greg Polcari, the band's guitarist, is awesome! He played all the tunes flawlessly and wailed on the solos. Billy, as always, gave a fantastic performance on bass. Henry Now pounded away with abandon on the ski
ns, and Jamie Fletcher is the perfect person to be the vocalist for this band.
The band did tunes spanning Britny Fox's history, and of course, included their big hits, "Girlschool", "Long Way to Love", and more. During "Girlschool" Jamie brought an audience member onto the stage. She had travelled all the way from Ohio and came dressed for the occasion in a naughty schoolgirl outfit. She got up on stage and danced away as the band rocked on. My only complaint was that the set was too short. That's just a Vegas thin
g. When bands are booked into those casino clubs they only get a one hour set. I would loved to have seen more, because I was having a great time, but of course that wasn't the band's fault.
After the show, the band invited everyone to hang out with them at a bar next door. We had to go see the Sin City Sinners perform at a different casino nightclub, but we went to the bar afterwards and some of the Britny Fox members were still there. I was supposed to interview Billy, but he had already returned to his room, so
I talked
with Greg for a bit. He told me that Britny Fox is working on a new album, hopefully to be released later this year. I'm definitely looking forward to it! More shows will be scheduled, too. So, if you didn't get to see them during this tour, make sure you see them when they hit the road again.
I want to thank Britny Fox for providing me with a pass for the show, and for the great time. I enjoyed chatting with everyone after the show. They are a great group of guys and treat their fans very well!
