SLASH IS WRAPPING UP WORK ON HIS NEW SOLO ALBUM

Slash has been hard at work recording tracks for a new solo album.  It will be released under the Slash & Friends moniker, which he also used for a recent performance at a gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Mirage in Las Vegas.

Most of the tracks were recorded with drummer Josh Freese (ex-Nine Inch Nails) and bass player Chris Chaney (ex-Jane's Addiction).  A number of vocalists contributed to the album, including Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold) and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters).  Additional musicians featured on the album will include drummer Steven Adler (formerly of Guns N' Roses) and bass guitarist Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Slash & Friends have laid down 18 tracks so far, and will be recording one more song over the coming weeks.  Other than that, the album is in the final mixing stages and is scheduled to be released in February or March of 2010.  Keep your fingers crossed for a tour following the album's release!

NEW BOOK, "WHY AC/DC MATTERS", TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 13TH!

AC/DC is one of the biggest rock bands of all time.  They rank just behind The Beatles as the second best-selling music act of all time, and their album Back in Black is second only to Michael Jackson's Thriller as the best-selling album of all time, selling a whopping 49 million copies.  In all, they've sold 200 million albums globally.  Their most recent release, Black Ice (2008) , debuted at number one on the charts in 29 countries.

Despite all their successes, AC/DC has all but been ignored by mainstream media during their 35 year history.  When they haven't been ignored, they've often been the butt of jokes by mainstream press.  They've only been on Rolling Stone's cover twice, and have never been included on any of the magazine's "Greatest...." lists.  Mainstream media has never really taken AC/DC seriously, considering them a basically talentless band that appeals to a huge low-class demographic who have no musical taste.

It's for this reason that author Anthony Bozza decided to write "Why AC/DC Matters".  A writer for Rolling Stone, penning the "Random Notes" column for two years, he has also written articles on many of rock's biggest stars, such as Ozzy Osbourne, for example.  He's also written or co-written a number of best-selling books, such as Tommy Lee's autobiography, "Tommyland", and Slash's autobiography, simply titled "Slash".

In "Why AC/DC Matters" Anthony Bozza boldly proclaims, "AC/DC is the greatest living rock band, end of story."  This is not a biography of AC/DC, rather it's a critical look at the band, not only from Bozza, but from other musicians, such as Slash and Tommy Lee, from famed producer Rick Rubin, and even teachers from the renowned Berklee School of Music.  The book takes a good hard look at the rise in popularity of this world famous band, and why they are an important force in rock 'n roll, as well as an examination of their legions of fans, young and old.

For perhaps the first time ever, AC/DC is treated as a serious band worthy of the recognition they deserve.  In "Why AC/DC Matters", Anthony Bozza treats the band with the respect they demand, elevating them to rock royalty, putting them on the same level as all the greatest rock bands in history, right where they belong!

"Why AC/DC Matters" is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com

THE AC/DC ULTIMATE BOX-SET, BACKTRACKS, SOON TO BE RELEASED!

PRESS RELEASE:  Anglo-Australian hard rock legends AC/DC will release Backtracks — the ultimate 3CD/2DVD/1LP rarities box set — on November 10 via Sony Music Entertainment. It includes a comprehensive collection of the band's studio and live rarities together in one place, remastered to sound better than ever (many on CD for the first time), on three CDs and one LP. Two DVDs brings "Family Jewels" up to date plus the entire 2003 Circus Krone gig. A 164-page hard-cover book, collectible merchandise reproductions, and a working guitar amp make this a must-have for true AC/DC fans.

What you get with AC/DC Backtracks Deluxe Collector's Edition:

Collector's Edition Box-Set:

The 12"x12"x4" (30cm*30cm*10cm) exterior box is designed to resemble a vintage AC/DC guitar amp — complete with the original logo that was spray-painted onto the rear of Angus and Malcolm Young's speaker cabinets in 1975. The "head" of the amp has a handle that lifts the top off to reveal the contents housed within. Oh yeah, the head is also a WORKING GUITAR AMPLIFIER! That's right, one watt of pure AC/DC makes this box a truly unique collector's item. You can PLAY the box set while LISTENING TO the box set! Check out the videos of Angus using the amp.

3 CDs:

CD 1 – Studio Rarities

This CD, for the first time, collects AC/DC's studio rarities, many on CD for the first time. These are all of the songs that the band recorded throughout their career that appeared on Australian-only LP releases, movie soundtracks, 7" and 12" single releases, and CD "tour editions", etc. 12 of the 18 tracks are completely unique songs that have all been remastered to match the unparalleled sound quality of the rest of the Columbia AC/DC catalog reissues. The other 6 tracks are the original versions of classic AC/DC songs previously only available on the original Australian albums. Some restore seconds to the original fades, others restore guitar solos and choruses. All are highly sought-after collectibles and have never sounded this good!

CDs 2 & 3 – Live Rarities

Like CD 1, this is a collection of the band's live rarities from singles, CD pros, compilations and other oddities. All have been remastered from original sources for optimum sound quality.

2 DVDs:

"Family Jewels" Disc 3

Picking up where the original 2DVD "Family Jewels" set leaves off (1991), "Family Jewels" Disc Three begins with "Big Gun""Last Action Hero" — itself a rarity on CD 1 – the first time on any AC/DC album! You also get all three music videos from the "Ballbreaker" album, three from "Stiff Upper Lip" and the most recent clips for "Rock N Roll Train" and "Anything Goes" from the #1 album Black Ice. But there's more! Several clips from the original "Family Jewels" set actually had more than one promotional clip. Here are the alternate versions of those classic videos – all on DVD for the first time.

Live At The Circus Krone 2003:

2003 was a banner year for AC/DC. From their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to massive European dates with THE ROLLING STONES, the band made several high-profile public appearances (including the SARS concert in Toronto for 200,000!). One run of shows found the band returning to their roots – playing clubs and theaters where they thrilled fans with sweaty, stripped-down shows and even throwing in some rarities they hadn't played in years. This show from Munich, Germany is the epitome of an "inside" look at how powerful the AC/DC show is — without all the bells and whistles of the big arena and stadium shows (well, they did bring the cannons…).

164-Page Coffee Table Book:

164 pages of rare and unseen photos spanning 1974-2009 plus full-size re-prints of original press releases, tour itineraries, tour books, test pressing labels, advertisements and much more. A real history of the band from the inside out. Rare photography includes never-before-seen shots of the band recording at the Albert Music studio on King Street in Sydney with legendary producers Harry Vanda and George Young in 1977. Also tons of unpublished live shots from all over the world.

LP:

The 12 unique studio rarities from CD 1 presented on 180-gram audiophile vinyl, mastered specifically for LP. A classic album in its own right!

KISS WILL BE SPARING NO EXPENSE ON THEIR UPCOMING TOUR

KISS will be hitting the road for a North American tour, which is set to kick off September 25th in Detroit at the Cobo Arena (the same place their 1975 live album Alive! was recorded).  The tour is in support of the band's first studio release in over ten years, Sonic Boom, which will be released October 6th.  Regarding the upcoming concerts, Gene Simmons told The Pulse of Radio, "New outfits, brand new stage, millions more put into it - that's the history of KISS.  Simply put, any band you go to see for the same ticket price, ya know, KISS in gonna five you tenfold more.  That's just a statement of fact.  And, there's a new screen, state-of-the-art; I don't think people have seen this kind of thing before - that's literally as wide as the entire stage.  So, there ain't a bad seat in the house."  Buckcherry is slated for the opening spot on the tour.

The new album is now available for pre-order at Amazon in a regular or limited edition CD.

LITA FORD IS BACK WITH HER NEW ALBUM, WICKED WONDERLAND, AND A TOUR WITH QUEENSRYCHE THIS FALL!

Press release:

Has marriage, motherhood and living on a desert island mellowed out Lita Ford?

Not a chance in hell, and in fact quite the opposite.  As she says of her upcoming album, Wicked Wonderland, it’s “heavier than ever, nastier than ever, more sexual than ever.”  Her sizzling lineup of new music hits the streets on October 6th, with its first single "Crave" already making an impact on metal fans and press alike.

“With these songs I tried to show that you can be a mom, have a family, make dinner and still be a freak with your man when the kids go to sleep,” she says of the material on Wicked Wonderland, written in collaboration with her husband Jim Gillette (former lead singer of Nitro) and Greg Hampton. “Just because we’re getting older and have real lives doesn’t mean we have to get boring, Actually, we’re getting freakier and freakier.”

The proof of that is found on her first new studio recording in 18 years, which features her trademark guitar star chops and hard rocking intensity fired up and renewed to match anything on the market today for sheer metallic power. Then add to that what she calls “very personal lyrics” on songs like "Love" “Indulge” and “Crave” that open the door to Lita's bedroom and show that “me and Jim are freaks,” she says. “There will be no denying that when everyone hears the new songs. It’s raunchy filth with a touch of class and a whole lotta ass!”

The rock’n’roll bug bit Lita at the age of 13 when her cousin took her to a Black Sabbath concert. “It changed my life,” she recalls. “I wanted to become the person on the stage. I wanted to create the energy that I felt that night. It was a life changing experience.” And to wit, she went on to later score her biggest hit with the singer onstage that night, Ozzy Osbourne, when their duet “Close My Eyes Forever” barreled into the Top 10 of the pop charts in 1989.

Throughout her solo career and earlier days as a member of The Runaways, Lita has proven “that chicks can rock a guitar” as well as sing, write and lead a hard rocking group right alongside the guys. It has just been announced that Lita and band will be joining Queensrÿche on a full-scale US tour this fall.

“The live show is all about forgetting everything and having fun,” says Lita . “I want the audience to forget all their problems and responsibilities for an hour and just rock and feel that intense energy that I did when I was 13. Hopefully I can cause the same kind of impact that my first concert had on me!”

L.A. GUNS WELCOMES NEW BASS PLAYER

L.A. Guns (Phil Lewis, Stacey Blades, Steve Riley) performed at Club Red in Tempe, Arizona last night with new bass player Kenny Kweens.  Kenny is also a member of Beautiful Creatures, which also includes our friend Joe Leste (Bang Tango) from right here in Phoenix.  Kenny and the boys put on a tremendous show last night!  We'll have more on the show in our full review which will be in our next issue on September 1st.

Kenny replaces Scotty Griffin who recently, and abruptly, left L.A. Guns to devote himself more fully to his other project, the King Mixers.  All reports are that the split was amicable and the band wishes Scotty the best.  Stacey told me that the Guns are very happy to have Kenny on board.  So, it appears everything has worked out for the best for all involved.

NICKI KIN OF VAINS OF JENNA HAS TWO GUITARS STOLEN!

We rockers are a big family, so to steal from another family member is really low.  We hope that the person who took the guitars realizes their error and returns them.  We're all in this together people, so please treat each other with respect and look out for one another.  We wish Nicki all the best and hope his guitars are returned to him.

ALLEN SHELLENBERGER, LIT DRUMMER, DIES OF CANCER

Press release:

Allen Shellenberger, drummer for Orange County rock band Lit, lost his battle with brain cancer Thursday, August 13, 2009 surrounded by his loving family, the band, and close friends.  He was 39 years old.  In May 2008, Allen was diagnosed with a malignant glioma brain tumor and immediately underwent clinical trials, chemotherapy and radiation treatments at the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute.

Allen was a founding member of Lit over two decades ago and was able to perform with the band until last fall.  In a statement from Kevin Baldes, Jeremy Popoff, and A. Jay Popoff, the band had this to say of their longtime friend Allen:

"To know Al was to know laughter.  He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.  Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed.  This was our brother and not a day will go by that we won't think about him.  Right now we're trying to find the balance of mourning his loss and celebrating his life.  Allen has experienced more in his 39 years than most people dream of in ten lifetimes.  This is a tremendous loss for us, our fans, and also for Allen's family who took such good care of him during his battle with cancer."

Allen is survived by his daughter Giovanna Mackey, his mother Connie James, and his father Paul Shellenberger.  Lit and Allen's family wish to thank everyone who supported the benefits for Allen.

Funeral services will be private for family members only.  Memorial event for Allen Shellenberger is pending.

KISS TO INTRODUCE THEIR "CARNIVAL OF SOULS" SHOW TO LAS VEGAS

Reporters Jason Bracelin and Mike Weatherford of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported today that legendary rockers KISS will be producing a big-budget show in the style of Cirque du Soleil.  The budget for this show is reported to be between $40 and $50 million.

The show, "KISS: Carnival of Souls" is being put together by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, along with Radical Publishing, a Los Angeles based comic book publishing company, and Radical's sister company Storm Lion, based in Singapore.

According to Barry Levine, co-founder of Radical Publishing, it will be an "all-encompassing affair."  "It involves every aspect of music, movement, lighting, stage design and special effects," stated Levine via email from Singapore.  "Since KISS is the epitome of theatrical rock, we need to make sure it represents the KISS brand.  The KISS brand has endured and sustained itself like no other group for the past 35 years."

More details about the show will be forthcoming.

AEROSMITH CANCELS REMAINDER OF THEIR TOUR!

Press release:

Aerosmith Regretfully Announce Cancellation of Remainder of Summer Tour

It is with great regret that AEROSMITH are canceling the remainder of their summer tour, it was announced today.

Due to injuries STEVEN TYLER sustained last week when he fell from the stage during a concert in Sturgis, SD, doctors have advised the lead singer to take the time to properly recuperate from the accident that resulted in a broken shoulder and stitches to his head. In his current condition, TYLER is unable to tour and the band wants to give him time to get healthy.

Ticket refunds for the rest of the tour dates with special guests ZZ Top will be available at point of purchase.

TYLER fell from the stage during the August 5 show that was part of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Western South Dakota. The mishap occurred while he was dancing during the band's "Love in an Elevator." TYLER was subsequently airlifted to a hospital and then returned to Boston to consult with his own doctors.

AEROSMITH--STEVEN TYLER (vocals), JOE PERRY (guitar), BRAD WHITFORD (guitar), TOM HAMILTON (bass) and JOEY KRAMER (drums)--want to thank all their fans for their incredible ongoing support and understanding at this time.

"Words can't express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour," says JOE PERRY. "I would like to thank our loyal fans for sticking by us through thick and thin and all the good energy they are sending our way. We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible. I sure am going to miss playing with ZZ Top just as I'm sure the fans are going to miss seeing them playing with us as well. Hope to see you sooner than later." JOE adds, " My hat's off to our crew for putting up with this crazy stop and start tour. In my estimation, it was one of the best looking and best run tours we've ever had. Us road dawgs will meet again. May your wheels keep turning and your load in's stay smooth."

"All of us here in the AEROSMITH organization and all of the people who contribute to making our shows possible are in a state of shock,"

BRAD WHITFORD says. "We never anticipated this tour coming to such a swift and unfortunate ending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steven for a speedy recovery and return to good health."

BLACK 'N BLUE AND Z RECORDS PART WAYS

Press release:

Despite previous reports to the contrary, BLACK 'N BLUE's long-awaited reunion album, "Hell Yeah!", will not be released in Europe through Z Records. The label and band reached an amicable agreement concerning the remuneration for Z's interests and a deal was signed last month allowing the group to explore other options.

"There are no hard feelings on the split," says vocalist Jaime St. James. "A lot of things have changed with this record since our signing with Z back in 2003. Z originally signed me, and now the record has four original members."

Z Records head honcho Mark Alger stated, "When Jaime approached us regarding the involvement of the other original members contractually, we listened and his suggestions where agreeable. Z has been repaid in full and we wish the band every success."

BLACK 'N BLUE — including current KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer — made a reunion appearance in their hometown of Portland, Oregon on December 8, 2007 at Berbati's Pan. The concert benefited the band's long-time friend Kenny Nordone in his struggle with cancer.

Following Jaime St. James' departure from WARRANT, he reformed BLACK 'N BLUE — with Shawn Sonnenschein replacing Thayer — and the band performed at last year's Rocklahoma 2008 festival.

THE LEGENDARY LES PAUL HAS DIED

Mr. Paul succumbed to pneumonia today at the age of 94 in White Plains, New York.  This Grammy award winning guitar legend, the father of the electric guitar, produced guitars that have used by such great talents as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend, among others.  In the '50s he produced a string of hit songs, with his then wife, Mary Ford, on vocals.  He was an inductee of the Grammy Hall of Fame, as well as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and was named as one of Rolling Stone magazine's "Greatest Guitarists of All Time".  In addition to being credited with the electric solid-body guitar, he was the innovator of techniques such as electronic echo and  multi-tracking.  He also developed the dual-pickup guitar, the 14-fret guitar and various electronic transducers.  Because of his inventions he was also inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, an achievement he shares with the likes of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.

Back in 2002 Paul told Guitar Player magazine, “I wanted people to hear me.  That’s where the whole idea of a solid-body guitar came from.  In the ’30s, the archtop electric was such an apologetic instrument.  On the bandstand, it was so difficult battling with a drummer, the horns, and all the instruments that had so much power.  With a solid-body, guitarists could get louder and express themselves.  Instead of being wimps, we’d become one of the most powerful people in the band.  We could turn that mother up and do what we couldn’t do before.”

The news of Paul's death prompted an outpouring of tributes from all over the world.  Today, Slash posted this message on Twitter, “He was one of the most stellar human beings I’ve ever known,” calling Mr. Paul his “friend and mentor."  Joe Satriani (Chickenfoot guitarist) had this to say of Paul, “Les Paul set a standard for musicianship and innovation that remains unsurpassed. He was the original guitar hero, and the kindest of souls."  Henry Juskiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar, which mass produced Paul's original guitar invention said, "He was truly the cornerstone of popular music.  He was a futurist, and unlike some futurists who write about it and predict things, he was a guy who actually did things."  Kiss' Paul Stanley remarked "The name Les Paul is iconic and is known by aspiring and virtuoso guitar players worldwide. That guitar is the cornerstone of a lot of great music that has been made in the last 50 years."  Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi guitarist) said of his friend, Les Paul, "Les lived a very long life and he got to a lot of his goals, so I'm happy for him in that respect.  At least he realized that he was a legend in his own time while he was alive.  He was revolutionary in the music business."

He is survived by Arlene Palmer, his companion, two sons from his first marriage, a son and daughter from his second marriage, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Les Paul has been one of the most important forces in rock 'n roll.  He may be gone, but his legacy will live on.  Rest in peace, Les, we'll miss you!

WHITESNAKE FORCED TO CANCEL REMAINDER OF THEIR TOUR WITH JUDAS PRIEST

Official Announcement   8-12-2009

"Unfortunately, last night at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, Whitesnake had to cut their performance short due to Mr Coverdale experiencing considerable pain in his vocal chords. He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks & then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that Whitesnake will not be appearing on the remainder of the US tour with Judas Priest, Whitesnake sincerely regrets any disappointment this may cause."

MIDDLE FINGER MOB TO EMBARK ON THEIR "FLIPPING OFF AMERICA" U.S. TOUR!

Press release:

Middle Finger Mob Breaks Out Of L.A.

After working in college radio and briefly running his own promotion company, Chris “Freekshow” Lowe learned a lot about the business side of the music industry. But now he is back in the radio game not as a promoter, but as an artist. His new L.A. Punk band, Middle Finger Mob, just released their first album, Songs Of Life, Sex & Death, and they’re getting ready for a U.S. tour.

“I love playing music, always have, and I am just glad that I learned a lot from the business side of things and can apply them to my experiences being in this band,” Freekshow says. “[Guitarist] Shawn Smash and myself were also involved in another band, Hollywood 77 (a 1977 punk tribute band). After that band had run its course, Shawn and I began to work on some material that he had and we went into the studio to begin recording. We honestly didn't know what to expect while in the studio. The songs we had were raw, and very street level rock & roll and we wanted to keep it that way, to kind of bring back that debauchery and recklessness that bands like Guns ’N Roses and Motley Crue are famous for – real rock & roll with a bad attitude! Also, we wanted to talk about our life experiences. So these songs are like an open book – a peek into the lives of Middle Finger Mob.”

He adds that, “This whole album is an expression of everyone in this band. We all lived through these experiences, then we wrote about it in these songs. The drug and alcohol abuse and overdoses, the divorces, break-ups, deaths, suicides, etc… it's all in there. The title of the album, Songs Of Life, Sex and Death, speaks for itself.”

Dates are currently being booked for the band’s Flipping Off America tour, and it will begin on November 11 and run through April 2010 with shows all over the country. Freekshow says to expect “High energy, high octane rock n roll, served up loud and rude! We have a great chemistry, and it shows on stage. All the guys (and gal) are great to work with, and we play very well together. If you’re in for a kick ass time, a Middle Finger Mob show can be a lot of fun. Just make sure you bring a designated driver and are willing to party till the sun comes up!”

MORE NEWS REGARDING THE ROCK GONE WILD FESTIVAL (ALSO SEE NEW BLOG POSTING)

The following is from KIMT, Channel 3, in Mason City, Iowa:

"NORTHWOOD - KIMT News 3 has learned that Rock Gone Wild has been cancelled.

The legal counsel for the event, Ted Sporer, says that Rock Gone Wild is ''on life-support' but adds that it's not looking good.  He tells KIMT News 3 that the dates of the event wouldn't change if it were to go on, stating, 'it's either August 20 through 23 or not at all.'  He adds that his top priority is to save the event.

Sporer says that a substantial number of tickets have been sold but didn't give a precise total.  He is unsure what will happen for people left holding tickets outside of stating that people will have to go through the typical refund process.

KIMT News 3 tried contacting promoter Donnie Frizzell, but no calls were returned.

Frizzell's only communication is through an e-mail that states:

Rock Gone Wild, an Iowa based LLC was informed by Diamond Jo Casino, LLC legal counsel on August 5, 2009, that 'the event cannot take place anywhere on the licensed premises.'

Due to Diamond Jo Casino, LLC refusing to honor its obligation to provide the venue, we are unable to produce the event as planned.  This matter has been referred to legal counsel.

All inquires should be addressed to:

Sporer & Flanagan, PC
Law Firm

According to Sporer, people with Rock Gone Wild have done 'everything possible to find alternate venues.'

When asked about its agreement with ABATE's Freedom Park and subsequent change of location to Northwood, Sporer said the two sides 'had an agreement in principle.'

An ABATE spokesman, Phil McCormick, told KIMT that due to legal action there is no way Rock Gone Wild will be held at Freedom Park.

KIMT also learned that the WIT Rally Grounds in Forest City had not been contacted as an alternate location for the event.

If Rock Gone Wild is to come back to life, Sporer says locations in Boone or Newton would be options, albeit highly improbably ones.

Sporer says that his clients legal perspective for the cancellation will be aimed at Diamond Jo Casino.

Diamond Jo told KIMT News 3 on Thursday that the event wouldn't be allowed on casino grounds."

Rumors are flying that no refunds will be forthcoming.  Ticket holders will be out hundreds of dollars, and bands that had to "pay to play" will be out thousands of dollars.  Many people involved are already talking about a class action lawsuit.  We'll keep you posted.

IT'S NOW OFFICIAL, ROCK GONE WILD IS JUST ROCK GONE!

The announcement regarding the cancellation on the RGW forum, www.fevertalk.net, reads as follows:

"Rock Gone Wild, an Iowa based LLC was informed by Diamond Jo Casino, LLC legal counsel on August 5, 2009, that “the event cannot take place anywhere on the licensed premises”.

Due to Diamond Jo Casino, LLC refusing to honor its obligation to provide the venue, we are unable to produce the event as planned. This matter has been referred to legal counsel.

Cell: 515-669-0940

This is disappointing news, to say the least, for those of us who had planned to attend this event.  We've all invested a lot of money, and some of us even passed on Rocklahoma, to attend RGW.  What the aftermath of the cancellation will be is going to be very interesting, lawsuits, etc.  We'll keep you posted.

IS ROCK GONE WILD CANCELED OR ISN'T IT?  THE LATEST NEWS

The announcement from Rock Gone Wild regarding its possible cancellation that was supposed to take place at 4pm eastern time still hasn't happened, so we are left to speculate.  In the meantime, we went to local newspapers and television stations for some new info.

Today KIMT, Channel 3 out of Mason City, Iowa, had this to say:

"According to Phil McCormick, the Iowa ABATE State Coordinator, people have been asking him if he'd be willing to bring Rock Gone Wild back to the ABATE grounds.  One of the show's former owners, Natalie Faghihi, is one of the people approaching McCormick.  The coordinator also points out that none of the people contacting him are directly tied to Rock Gone Wild, including promoter Donnie Frizzell.

McCormick says that the event's promoter breached a contract the two sides had several weeks ago and that the matter is still going through the legal process.

While lawyers are hashing out the disputed contract, McCormick says he is meeting with his lawyer today to talk about the possibility of Rock Gone Wild returning to Kossuth County.

McCormick says that it would be difficult to bring the event back to ABATE but possible.  Set up time for the event would take about a week.

Meanwhile, Algona's Chamber of Commerce tells KIMT News 3's Cole Mathisen that Frizzell has told them to suspend ticket sales indefinitely.

Officials with Winnebago say they have not been approached regarding the possible use of the WIT Rally Grounds in Forest City."

With less than two weeks to go, can it still happen?  We'll let you know when we know.

ROCK GONE WILD MAY INDEED BE CANCELED!

Rumors have been swirling since yesterday, so we tried to find some facts for you.  We went to local newspapers for some news.

We took the following quote from the Globe Gazette, a newspaper from northern Iowa:

Food caterer Dean Homme, of All Star Foods in Hudson, Wis., said Thursday morning that he was called by the promoter  of the event and told the event was cancelled.

And Tricia Byrnes, a booking agent for one of the bands, Ernie and the Automatics, received information Thursday morning that, “the event may not happen.” She said her company, Fine Productions, was told they would know within 48 hours if the four-day event would be held.

KIMT, Channel 3, out of Mason City, Iowa had this to report:

The General Manager of Diamond Jo Casino in Worth County tells us they're not allowing Rock Gone Wild to happen on any of the casino's licensed grounds.

So, it doesn't look good.  RGW promoters will issue a press release today, Friday Aug. 7th, at 4pm.  Then we'll all know for sure.

July 22, 2009

PRESS RELEASE - Frontiers Records has set a September 18th European release date (October 13th in the U.S.) for the LYNCH MOB's comeback studio album entitled "Smoke And Mirrors".

After seventeen long years, singer Oni Logan and guitar wizard George Lynch found their way back together and again show their amazing abilities in some killer new hard rock songs . "I would say this new record is the album we should have put out as a follow-up to 'Wicked Sensation'... Better late than never, I guess..." says Lynch.

LYNCH MOB was formed by George Lynch, one of the few genuine guitar heroes of substance to emerge from the Los Angeles scene, after DOKKEN split up in 1989. The band's first album, "Wicked Sensation", went on to sell over 500,000 units in the U.S. and featured the talents of singer Oni Logan, Anthony Esposito on bass and another former DOKKEN member, Mick Brown, on drums. After a tour in support of QUEENSRŸCHE, Logan opted out, with Robert Mason (now in Big Cock and Warrant) taking his place on the follow-up self-titled release. However, Lynch and Brown eventually returned to DOKKEN, releasing two studio albums until he left again in late 1997 putting together several new incarnations of LYNCH MOB and exploring new sounds with different projects.

However, Oni Logan and George Lynch would find themselves again in a studio in the summer of 2007. "We weren't sure what was going to happen," recalls George, "but as soon as I heard what Oni was coming up with just off the top of his head, I knew the old chemistry was still there. So, we spent many months writing. The first batch of songs had almost a southern rock feel to them and there was quite a bit of acoustic and slide work on those. They also had a genuine '70s vibe. These first songs had elements reminiscent of FLEETWOOD MAC , ZEPPELIN, BLACK CROWES and STONES, and it was all very bluesy. We lived with those songs for a while then went in and did a second round of collaboration. We had tightened up as a band after touring over the summer and we consciously wrote the newer material with the 'Wicked Sensation' record in mind. So, we updated the earlier songs a little and wrote a few more 'adventurous' tracks and went in to start recording."

Joining the new lineup are bassist Marco Mendoza (WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY ) and drummer Scot Coogan (BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, ACE FREHLEY). More than a band, this team is guaranteed to create one of the most explosive shows you can ever experience and shines big time on the brand new recording which is set to put LYNCH MOB back on the map as one of the most exciting hard rock bands around! "Marco Mendoza is literally a gift from Heaven," continues Lynch. "How they figured out how to stuff all that talent and goodness into one person I'll never know. They must have made a mistake at the factory! [Laughs] ... Then there's Scot Coogan on drums.... baby of the band... He's very solid, very '..Bonham-..esque'... not sure if that's a real word!"

"Smoke and Mirrors" track listing:

01. 21st Century Man
02. Smoke and Mirrors
03. Lucky Man
04. My Kind Of Healer
05. Time Keepers
06. Revolution Hero
08. Let The Music Be Your Master
09. The Fascist
10. Where Do You Sleep at Night?
11. Madly Backwards
12. We Will Remain
13. Before I Close My Eyes
14. Mansions In The Sky (Bonus Track)

LYNCH MOB is ready to embark on a world tour in the fall of 2009 to follow up the successful performance at Rocklahoma 2008 and to promote "Smoke and Mirrors". "We have been expecting to go out in a support situation with a bigger act in the fall of 2009 to coincide with the release of 'Smoke and Mirrors' and were also expecting to visit Europe, as well," says George Lynch. "It's been way too long since I've played Europe and we need to tour there extensively... Last time LYNCH MOB toured Europe was with QUEENSRŸCHE... and I think that was 1991!"

TIGERTAILZ HAS CANCELLED THEIR PERFORMANCE AT ROCK GONE WILD!

Here's what they had to say about it in their own words:

"Tigertailz regretfully announce they will not be part of Rock Gone Wild 2009.

Administrative problems leading up to the event have proved impossible to overcome in time for the band to travel to the USA.

Tigertailz are hugely frustrated and disappointed with this outcome and apologise to those looking forward to see them - the band really wanted to be part of this. However, with many necessary formalities not being finalised and the show only a matter of weeks away, the situation has become an impossible one.

Once again, to those in the USA wanting to see Tigertailz, our sincerest apologies - if there was any way of being there, we'd be there - hopefully we'll get to you soon..."

ROCK GONE WILD VENUE HAS MOVED!!!!!

We heard about this the day before yesterday, but did not want to issue a statement until it was confirmed.  Today we received confirmation, so please keep reading.......

Northwood, IOWA (July 16, 2009) – Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, is on the move - literally.

Organizers of the show announced today that the Iowa-based, four-day festival is being moved from Freedom Park in Algona to The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood.  “The size of the festival necessitated the change,” stated Donnie Frizzell, managing partner of Rock Gone Wild.  “Thus, the move to Diamond Jo’s will allow us to best serve the fans of the festival who have already bought tickets, all of the great bands we’ve booked, our employees and those who are still making plans to attend. “

“We’d like to thank everyone involved at ABATE and the City of Algona who helped us prepare over the last year for the event.  Unfortunately, after visiting the venue several times this year and also looking forward to next year, we decided to make the move to best serve the future of the festival, ” Nathalie Faghihi, festival general manager, added.

The Diamond Jo Casino is a gambling casino and entertainment complex located just south of the Iowa/Minnesota border on Interstate 35 in Northwood.  The new venue is 110 miles south of Minneapolis and 135 miles north of Des Moines, which means fans who are flying into those areas will actually be closer to the venue than they would have been to the Algona site.

“This is the first four-day, mega rock, outdoors festival in the world that has aligned itself with a major casino location,” Frizzell said.  “We want to offer all concert goers the ultimate experience to fulfill all of their entertainment desires.  This is something Rock Gone Wild, as an intellectual property, will roll out worldwide in 2010.”

A list of hotels in the Clear Lake/Mason City and Albert Lea areas will be posted at the festival website this week.  “There are more than 20 major hotels in the area to accommodate our fans,” Frizzell added.

“The move allows us to consolidate our festival operations into one premium site that is located just off a major highway,” Frizzell continued.  “We will be able to set-up stages in one venue instead of two, and can use the hotel and casino to accommodate the bands, media and also give fans something to do after the music stops.”

The festival will still be held on August 20-23.  All previously sold tickets will be honored on the original dates.  Rock Gone Wild is a four day outdoors Rock Festival.  VIP, Platinum and general admission advance tickets are now on sale.  RV and tent camping site are also available for those wanting to experience everything that Rock Gone Wild has to offer.

The festival organizers have announced the line-ups for each day of the festival:

Thursday, August 20:  Saxon, Jackyl, Warrant, April Wine, Honeymoon Suite, Black ‘N Blue, Ernie and the Automatics (featuring former Boston members Barry Goudreau and Sib Hashian), Sick of Sarah, and Savior.

Friday, August 21:  Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Saigon Kick, Cherie Currie (of the Runaways), Powerman 5000, Tyketto, Marcy Playground, Rhino Bucket, Attention, Signum A.D., Throw the Figh and Ashamed.

80s SUNSET STRIP GLAMSTERS, SWINGIN' THING, ARE BACK!!

Press Release - Fifteen years in the making and the kings of the Sunset Strip return!  Swingin' Thing is back with The Black List - 14 never before heard recordings that will blow your mind!

Straight from the Glam & Sleaze vaults, Demon Doll Records and Swingin' Thing have teamed up to hand pick the songs that would have encompassed the first major label release from the band, including never before released versions of "Supersonic", "All That Glitters" and “Do You Feel Alright”.  The Black List will bring you back to the glory days of the Sunset Strip when the boys reigned supreme, sold out shows were the norm and signing major label record deals were all in a days’ work!

Be the first to hear "All For The Love Of Rock 'N' Roll" (which was going to be released as the first single on the Encino Man soundtrack), and soak in the self destruction of "D.I.Y.", "Pills", "Manic Meltdown" and "1994'.  Get smashed up by the boys’ version of "I Got A Right", a cover that even Iggy himself would be proud of.  This album will literally melt your face off!  Also included in the booklet, is the history behind the collection of songs and the story of the era from which they came, written by guitarist Sunny Phillips.

Every step of the way Swingin' Thing have been with us to make this record.  From choosing and arranging the songs, to mastering the album, to peeling the flyers of the wall to make the album cover (which was actually going to be used for the major label release), to the glass mastering from which the album was silver pressed!

The Black List  is available from
demondollrecords.com and Amazon, and this album will sell out!

According to Swingin' Thing guitarist Sunny Phillips, "As a band we were very proud of these songs and believed they were the best music we had recorded to date.  It is fair to say that if Swingin’ Thing would have remained a Hollywood Records recording artist, our first release would have been very similar to this CD!"

D'PRIEST / LONDON TO FILM MUSIC VIDEO & DOCUMENTARY

I received a note from frontman Nadir D'Priest, aka DARKMAN, that the band will be filming their show at Club Red in Tempe, Arizona this Saturday night, July 11th, as part of a music video and documentary about his bands D'Priest / London. The show will be hosted by Mike Gaube of KDKB.

I'm sure many of you remember the band London from back in the 80s. They were on MTV and in the rockumentary, The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. I still have their album, Don't Cry Wolf on vinyl! Well, London has become D'Priest and they are out and rockin' once again, and we here in the Phoenix area are privileged to be a part of their video/documentary.

I will be interviewing Nadir while the band is in town, so look for our upcoming feature of D'Priest/London. Those of you in the Phoenix area, don't miss this show!

GYPSY PISTOLEROS, BAI BANG, HOLLYWOOD HARLOT AND MORE TO PLAY AN "UNOFFICIAL" ROCKLAHOMA PRE-PARTY!

June 15, 2009

TRIXTER'S BASSIST ADDED TO LITA FORD'S TOURING BAND

Press Release - '80s hard rock queen Lita Ford has recruited P.J. Farley from TRIXTER/RA as her new touring bassist. Farley joins a band that also includes GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and BUMBLEFOOT (the band) drummer Dennis Leeflang.

Lita Ford will release "Wicked Wonderland", her first new U.S. studio album in 14 years, early this fall on her own JLRG Entertainment label. After a 15-year break from music, living on an island in the Caribbean raising her two sons, Lita will also hit the road this summer playing select festivals and motorcycle rallies in America and Europe.

"It's harder and sexier than anything I've ever done," says Lita of the record, which was co-produced by Ford, her husband and former NITRO singer Jim Gillette, and Greg Hampton, the songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer known for his work with ALICE COOPER, his band SCIENCE FAXTION (with Bootsy Collins and Buckethead and Brain from GUNS N' ROSES) and other rock notables. Lita is backed on the record by drummer Stet Howland, formerly of W.A.S.P., Hampton on bass, rhythm guitar and keyboards, Gillette on background vocals, and its vivid cover art is by ROB ZOMBIE bassist and solo artist Piggy D.

The songs brim with a passionate adult eroticism and über-hard rock sound highlighted by Lita's trademark searing guitar riffs. The album includes a keen and timely slice of social commentary on "Patriotic SOB", sexy rave-ups like "Piece (Hell Yeah)", duets with Gillette on numbers like the aptly titled "Indulge", and "Betrayal", which will be featured in the upcoming video game Brütal Legend, in which Lita also voices one of the characters alongside Jack Black, Lemmy Kilmister of MOTÖRHEAD and Rob
Halford of JUDAS PRIEST. The recordings find her rocking, playing and singing with an amped-up fury and power like never before that's also informed by her personal growth as a wife and mother as well as legendary rocker.

TWISTED SISTER, GEORGE THOROGOOD, MARCY PLAYGROUND, SEVENDUST AND POWERMAN 5000 ALL ADDED TO ROCK GONE WILD!

**PRESS RELEASE**ALGONA, IOWA (May 15, 2009) – Rock Gone Wild, America’s newest and most diverse rock festival, has announced two more additions to its already impressive line-up. Twisted Sister, the kings of glam rock and roll, will close the main stage on Saturday, August 22. Sevendust, one of modern rocks biggest acts, helps shut down the huge party on Sunday, August 23.

Twisted Sister will celebrate its 25th anniversary and add to its impressive run of headline festival appearances by closing Saturday’s show at the inaugural Rock Gone Wild. The band sold over 10 million records and issued the classic rock anthems “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock” back in the ‘80’s. More than a decade after the band’s last show in 1987, the quintet reformed at a tribute show and has continued playing together; the reformation includes an astonishing run of over 50 headline festival dates, performing in front of two million people in 23 countries. The group has also had success re-issuing records, recording a Christmas collection and releasing numerous DVDs of its legendary live show, a show that will come alive in all of its glory at RGW. Make sure to catch it-this may be the last time that TS dons the “old school” make-up onstage in the U.S.

Sevendust has become one of modern rock’s biggest bands the hard way-releasing a stream of impressive records and following each with a seemingly never-ending tour. The band is not known for one record or one song, but rather a solid body of work that continues to improve with every new release. The band’s last record, Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow, which featured the huge hits “Inside” and “The Past” is still selling, but the band is already recording the follow-up. The quintet will take a studio break to rock RGW with its blend of heavy metal guitar, rap dynamics and infectious melodies.

With these additions, the line-ups for each day of the festival have been announced:

Thursday: Saxon, Warrant, April Wine, Saigon Kick, Honeymoon Suite, Tyketto, Black ‘N Blue, Tigertailz, Ernie and the Automatics (featuring former Boston members Barry Goudreau and Sib Hashian), Sick of Sarah, Ashamed and Savior.

Friday: Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Jackyl, Cherie Currie (of the Runaways), Powerman 5000, Marcy Playground, Rhino Bucket, Gypsy Pistoleros, Throw the Fight and Crazy Lixx.

Saturday: Twisted Sister, Skid Row, Lita Ford, Dokken, Great White, Kix, L.A. Guns (featuring Phil Lewis), Hardcore Superstar, Primal Fear, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Junkyard, Frankenstein 3000, Sex Department, Mighty Swine and Stallion.

Sunday: George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Candlebox, Sevendust, Saving Abel, Eve 6, Tantric, Armored Saint, Lizzy Borden, Dirty Looks, Lillian Axe, The Texas Hippie Coalition, Downtread and Stuck on Stupid.

If you want to go wild this summer, Rock Gone Wild is the place to be. With over 50 bands on two stages and campground parties going all night long, even the most insatiable rock appetite will be satisfied.

But if you really want the ultimate Rock n’ Roll experience, you need to be in the Sinner’s Lounge. The Sinners Lounge is the first-of-its-kind to be featured at an American rock festival. It is not your average VIP experience at a festival, the Sinners Lounge at Rock Gone Wild will offer an up-close look at the sort of debauchery that rock fans only dream of seeing at a rock festival.

Limited only to 500 ticket holders and rock stars, the sinners lounge will place the avid fan in the midst of the rock and debauchery experience, in an all inclusive night club setting. Glowing walls, leather couches, nightly Champaign fountains, appetizers, and cocktail waitresses dressed to theme each night are just the beginning of this all inclusive lounge. Want an open bar with liquor, cocktails, martinis, shooters and more booze than a tour bus in the 80’s? Check. Want to be entertained by dancers and acoustic performances by special guests? Check. Want to mingle with the bands that rocked your world just hours ago? Check. Want a View of the backstage mayhem while you do it all? Check. Go Platinum at Rock Gone Wild 09 to enjoy this all inclusive package along with seating in the first 10 rows, buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner, beer, soft drinks and more.

BULLETBOYS NEW ALBUM SOON TO BE RELEASED!

I spoke to BulletBoys lead vocalist, Marq Torien, this past Saturday at the Desert Invasion festival in Phoenix, Arizona where the BulletBoys were one of eight 80s era bands who were performing that day. He informed me that the new BulletBoys album is slated for release early this June, and that the release will be followed by a tour of the U.S. in support of the new album. For more info, read the following press release I received today.

BulletBoys' new release entitled "10c Billionaire" (pronounced 10 cent Billionaire) has finally been finished! Mixed and mastered by Brent Woods (Vince Neil, Wildside), the finishing touches were put on the project this week and they have delivered a sonically superb new rock masterpiece - WOW! The CD package is currently in progress.

Years in the making, "10c Billionaire" was written by original founding member Marq Torien. The flamboyant frontman has reinvented the band catapulting the BULLETBOYS to a new rock 'n roll force majeure that is fresh sounding and very relevant in today's music scene. The first single "Road To Nowhere" has already been released and is now airing at many rock stations across the U.S.

The Bulletboys will be heading out in July with Faster Pussycat on a nationwide U.S. tour in support of "10c Billionaire". Dubbed the "Dias de Los Muerto Tour 2009" featuring Bulletboys and Faster Pussycat, both bands have paired up for a tour extraordinaire! Dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

More information will be revealed shortly regarding the release and tour. Stay tuned!!

Check out www.chavisrecords.net for more info....

Also go to the BulletBoys MySpace page where you can hear the first single, "Road to Nowhere".

ALBUM NEWS FROM THE GYPSY PISTOLEROS

********PRESS RELEASE***********

GYPSY PISTOLEROS have scrapped all recordings of the second album "Welcome to the Hotel de la Muerte" at Robannas Studio (Birmingham) with Miguel Seco (Pussycat Dolls) and will begin all over again with original producer Joe Gibb (Janes Addiction, Catatonia, Leftfield, The Kinks, The Cure, Funeral for a friend , Madonna, etc) handling the whole process from start to finish (even miking the drums) at Mighty Atom Studios (Wales) for the whole month of June!

It was upon Joe Gibbs' advice that this decision was made, as he personally wanted to oversee the whole process after hearing the new songs!

"They sound too good to waste. They have to be great, so we have to do it properly" - Joe Gibb.

Due to studio time over-running, "Welcome to the Hotel de la Muerte" will be released as at least a 7 track mini album in time to be out for the Pistoleros main stage appearances at the Rocklahoma and Rock Gone Wild U.S. festivals. Tracks are "Living Down With the Gypsies", "Viva Zapata", "Son Ilusiones", "Sangre de las Rosas", "Welcome to the Hotel de la Muerte", "Walk Through the Shadows" and "Johnny Peligroso".

It is unknown which of the various record labels chasing the band will release this!

Gypsy Pistoleros are Iggie & Lee Pistolero! The rest of the line-up, live and studio will be revealed soonish, and will include some surprises!

RUSTEE CASANOVA, BASS PLAYER FOR THE LOS ANGELES BAND HOLLYWOOD 77 PASSES AWAY FROM APPARENT OVERDOSE

Rustee, age 44, was discovered deceased yesterday afternoon by friends. Those close to him say that he apparently died of an overdose of Oxycontin and alcohol. I know the pain those close to him are feeling right now. Last July my ex, my friend, father of my daughter, and vocalist for the Phoenix band The Anger Trade, Mike Shannon, passed away because of an overdose of Vicodin and alcohol. He was 37.

It is painful to lose someone close to you, especially when it didn't have to happen. We are losing to many people in our rock 'n' roll family because of these kind of overdoses. So, I would like to take this opportunity to ask all of you to please not mix pills and alcohol. Each of those alone can be lethal, but when you combine them you are just asking for trouble. It takes less than you would think to be fatal, so please my friends, just don't do it.

R.I.P. Rustee, and R.I.P. Mike.

Lita's musical career began with the all-girl hard rockin' band, The Runaways, back in the late 70s. Then, in the 80s she took the rock world by storm when she launched her solo career. Now, after a 15 year hiatus, Lita is recording a brand new album. She'll be performing new songs from that album along with perennial favorites like "Kiss Me Deadly" and "Close My Eyes Forever" when she appears on stage at Rock Gone Wild.

Another exciting new addition to the RGW lineup is Crazy Lixx. This Swedish group, formed in 2002, is part of the new wave of glam and sleaze rock that is sweeping the globe. Inspired by the great rock bands of the 80s, but with a sound all their own, Crazy Lixx released their debut album, "Loud Minority", in 2007. Their brand of rock will appeal to glam and sleaze rockers, young and old.

Also just added, New York City 80s band, Tyketto. Tyketto garnered a huge following of very loyal fans during their career, due to their melodic classic rock sound and awesome guitar riffs. The band re-formed in recent years and rumors swirl about a new album, something that will make Tyketto's fans ecstatic if it happens.

Other bands scheduled to appear at Rock Gone Wild 2009 include Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Skid Row, Eve 6, Candlebox, Tantric, Kix, Saxon, Great White, Hardcore Superstar, Saigon Kick, Tigertailz, Lizzy Borden, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Rhino Bucket, Junkyard and the Gypsy Pistoleros. Many more bands will be announced in the weeks and months to come, including the festival's headliners, so stay tuned!

For ticket and camping info, including how to enter a contest for free tickets, go to www.rockgonewild.com. Hope to see you there!

GREAT WHITE'S NEW ALBUM, "RISING", RELEASED IN EUROPE TODAY!

FROM: Frontiers Records press release

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the European release of GREAT WHITE'S brand new studio album “Rising” on March 13th, 2009.

Since reuniting in January 2007 to perform at a benefit concert, GREAT WHITE has moved forward releasing their comeback album, “Back to the Rhythm”, to commemorate their 25th anniversary. Hailed by critics and fans as a return to the heyday of the band, GREAT WHITE performed live on a world tour that ended in early 2008, after a successful string of 14 dates all over Europe.

Long time members Jack Russell (vocals), Mark Kendall (lead guitar), Audie Desbrow (drums), Michael Lardie (guitar, keyboards) [and] new bassist Scott Snyder (ex RAMOS) have spent the last few months in the studio writing and recording new songs. “I think had we done this record back in the day it would hold up to anything we've ever done and also fit perfectly,” says guitar player, Mark Kendall. “When we make music with Jack singing, and me playing guitar, along with Michael Lardie, it's going to sound like Great White no matter what era.”

“The new album for me was extension of the affection we have for playing music together,” says Michael Lardie. “I believe the songs are a bit more introspective, true to life experience for us. Not all the songs were written as we went into the studio, so I feel there is a freshness to the tracks as a result.”

According to singer Jack Russell, “The band is in great shape and everyone is excited about the new year. We can't wait to tour and play some of the new music live. Our new bass player, Scott, is a great guy who can really play. The stuff he wrote to our new music is awesome!”

Just like the previous album, "Rising", was mixed, produced, and engineered by Michael Lardie. The new cd rocks from start to finish, and shows the band’s maturity in writing amazing rock anthems, killer blues numbers, melodic mid-tempos and heartfelt ballads.

“Rising” track listing includes: Situation;.. All Or Nothin'; I Don’t Mind; Shine; Loveless; Is It Enough; Last Chance; Danger Zone; Down On The Level; Only You Can Do; My Sanctuary; Let's Spend the Night Together (Euroean bonus track).

SIRIUS XM RADIO IS REPORTED TO BE HEADING INTO BANKRUPTCY

The New York Times has reported that Sirius XM Satellite Radio is preparing to possibly file for bankruptcy. You may remember that the two satellite radio companies merged in July of 2008. However, due to the credit crunch, the high cost of sending up satellites, and the high salaries paid to the radio talent, the company is $3.25 billion in debt.

Most likely there would be no interruption in service for satellite radio customers, but some of the high-priced radio talent may find that their contracts will be terminated. Those possibly on the chopping block could be Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, Artie Lang, and others.

Sirius XM will most likely be unable to pay the $175 million payment on its enormous debt, which is due at the end of the month. This paves the way for the satellite television company, Echostar, to take over the ailing Sirius XM. Echostar has already purchased $400 million of Sirius XM's debt that was due this past December. Both companies' chief execs are said to be discussing the issue, and Echostar could take over Sirius XM before they even file for bankruptcy.

Makes you wonder if they will be the next company to ask the government for a bailout.

BANDS, HOW WOULD YOU LIKE $50,000.00 TO RECORD AND RELEASE A PROFESSIONALLY DONE ALBUM?

Well, it's possible. There's a web site out there that can help you out. This is a unique opportunity and a great idea. Not only can you raise the money you need, but you'll be making new fans as you do it! What more can you ask. I won't explain all the particulars here. I'll let you read about it on the web site. Just go to, www.sellaband.com, to find out how this works.

This is one of the best things we've seen in a long time to help up and coming bands make an album without having to kiss up to any record company. You'll have full control. Our regular readers know of the disdain we have for the recording industry in general. (There are a few good labels out there, but for the most part the major labels don't have a clue what the listening public wants these days. And, they wonder why their records aren't selling. It's because they're putting out crap that very few people want to buy!) So, skip sending demo after demo out to record companies only to have the door slammed in your face. Do it yourself, with the help of your fans who partner with you. It's a win win situation!

WITH WEBZINES BECOMING MORE POPULAR, ANOTHER PRINT MAGAZINE BITES THE DUST

The once very popular music magazine, Metal Edge Magazine, is closing up shop. I take no pleasure in reporting this, as it was a great mag, but times are changing, and with the internet becoming a more popular place to get the latest news and info, and with the bad economy, this seems to be the wave of the future. It's very expensive to print a magazine, and if people aren't buying you simply can't continue to do so. A webzine is much more inexpensive to run, so even in a bad economy we webzines can continue to run. I say a fond farewell to an awesome magazine, R.I.P. Metal Edge! (For more info:

**Press Release** From the South Texas Rock Fest
DANGEROUS TOYS HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE SOUTH TEXAS ROCK FEST!!

[The following is a reprint from the South Texas Rock Fest press release edited only for spelling, punctuation, and clarity]: South Texas Rock Fest is happy to announce that those bad ass mothers from Texas, DANGEROUS TOYS, have been added to Saturday at the 2009 STRF!

About Dangerous Toys:

Formed in Austin, Texas [in] Oct. of 87 when guitarist, Tim Trembly (who wrote the lyrics to "Teas'n Pleas'n" and "Outlaw" on the debut release), asked Watchtower singer, Jason McMaster, to help out with some dates that he and band mates, guitarist Scott Dalhover, Mike Watson on bass, and drummer Mark Geary, had booked on the current calendar and didn't want to cancel, as they seemed to have misplaced their singer. The band was, at the time, called Onyx.

Enter McMaster, and the same guitars, bass, and drums, and you get the souped up version, Dangerous Toys. By spring 1988 the band had signed with Columbia records. Exit Tim Trembly [on] guitar, and enter Danny Aaron [on] guitar.

The self-titled release, produced by Max Norman (Ozzy-Blizzard of Oz, Diary of a Madman; Loudness-Lightning Strikes; Megadeth-Countdown to Extinction) was released May 9, 1989. Also [released was the] song "Demon Bell", written by the band along with Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi), and included [in] 1990's Wes Craven Horror film, "Shocker" (the band's first and only soundtrack release).

Then, a sophmore effort in 1991 brought forth the title, "Hellacious Acres" (produced by Roy Thomas Baker-Queen, Journey, Cheap Trick, The Cars). Add hard worldwide touring with supporting slots for Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Metal Church, Motorhead, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, the Cult, Bonham, Accept, and too many others, the self-titled (album) going gold, and creeping to platinum, with "Hellacious Acres" on its heels, the band seemed unstoppable.

By the end of 1992, exit Danny Aaron, and enter Kevin Fowler (find on web,
www.kevinfowlerband.com). Fowler never recorded with the band, but completed a 200 date tour in 1993, restoring faith in bluesy, old school, heavy rock music throughout the states. This was at a time when labels were merging and downsizing, and following the mighty dollar bill, which seemed to blow the way of new styles of rock.

With the line-up change, the band had also asked to leave the current label (Sony music/Columbia records), making a wise and amicable split...soon to be signed to the Austin based label DMZ/Dos-Antones Records with a new release called "Pissed".

Exit Fowler on guitar, enter Dirty Looks (Atlantic Records) guitarist, Paul Lidel, in January 1994. With a new label, new guitarist, and new CD, another tour was inevitable.

Spring 1994, exit bassist Mike Watson, enter Salty Dog (Geffen Records) bassist, Michael Hannon. With Hannon coming to Texas to learn 18 songs and do a 200 date tour, the band, now angry and full of piss and vinegar, reached into 1995 and rocked harder than ever.

By [the] summer of 1995 the band was writing material for a new release, which would become the Dangerous Toys fanbases' least favorite. The band had undergone many changes. They had lost original members, becoming a four piece. McMaster had taken over bass duties, and was now [doing] double duty onstage. They were faced with a scaled down punk rock style of touring with mainly headlining shows, as they no longer held big support slots with more popular selling acts. These factors changed things a bit for the show, and also [for] the fans.

Amid considerations of changing the name of the band, and also awareness of style changes (different music as well as lyrical writing) in the band, the altered line-up of remaining alumni, McMaster on vocals and bass, Dalhover on guitars, Geary on drums, and the bands fourth guitarist, Paul Lidel (who in fact had now been in the Toys line up for more than 12 months), exposed this evolution in style with the release of the album, "Dangerous Toys - The R-tist 4-merly Known as Dangerous Toys" (late 95). Another tour, yes, but not as extensive as before, as [the] result of troubles at the label, as well as distribution.

Things slowed for the Toys, and reunion fever had struck by way of an offer for an opening slot for old label mate Alice Cooper in Oct. 1999. This came right after the release of the first live album from the band "Dangerous Toys - Vitamins and Crashhelmets Tour-Live Greatest Hits", as well as reissues of 1994's "Pissed", and 1995's "The R-tist 4Merly Known as Dangerous Toys" (all three on indie Deadline/Cleopatra Records).

By 2001 the Toys had played 4 sold out shows in Austin and Tokyo, and added songs into the set that had never been played live. These shows included original bassist, Mike Watson, making it in the band's terms, "as original as the line-up could ever be with the long years Lidel has stuck with us."

2003 brought another reunion blur in the way of an Austin meets Tokyo repeat, with many fans worldwide not letting the spirit that the band created ever die.

2005, Boston based and Century Media Recording Artist, Shadows Fall, cover Dangerous Toys classic, "Teas'n Pleas'n", asking McMaster to record the vocal. The song is released on Shadows Fall, "The War Within" (Japanese Import), and is being domestically released in the states and Canada on a "B Sides" compilation by Shadows Fall.

2005, May 7, the Toys play a special 2 hour set to commemorate an 18 year anniversary at the Red Eyed Fly in Austin, Texas. Look for the CD and DVD to come in 2006, again, released independently.

2009, Dangerous Toys rocks at South Texas RockFest!

Jason McMaster-vocals, Paul Lidel and Scott Dalhover-guitars, Mike Watson-bass, Mark Geary-drums.

The 80's melodic metal band, ICON, has re-formed with original members, and my old friend, Dan Wexler and John Aquilino. Also in the mix is original drummer Pat Dixon. The group is nicely rounded out with new members, lead vocalist Scott Hammons and Ken Geraghty on bass.

Dan Wexler - 1990

Earlier this year, ICON released a DVD entitled, "ICON - 1984: Live Bootleg". It contains the only known footage of an entire concert, recorded at a sold out show in 1984 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, featuring all of the original members, Dan Wexler, John Aquilino, Pat Dixon, Stephen Clifford, and Tracy Wallach. The DVD also includes interviews with Wexler and Aquilino.

Perhaps the best news for the many loyal fans of this phenomenal band is the first live performance by ICON since 1990. On November 29th ICON played a show with Tesla at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. Unfortunately, due to the flu I was unable to attend, and let me tell you I was extremely disappointed that I couldn't make it. However, I've heard great reviews from those who did attend. We can only hope that many more shows will follow, along with some new music, from this extraordinarily talented group of musicians. If so, we'll be sure to let you know!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was announced yesterday that Welsh band, Tigertailz, will perform at the Rock Gone Wild! festival to take place in Algona, Iowa from Aug. 20-23, 2009. The Tigertailz lineup includes Kim Hooker, Jay Pepper and Matt Blakout. They will be added to the great lineup of other bands, including Puddle Of Mudd, Saliva, Skid Row, Great White, KIX, Saigon Kick, Hardcore Superstar, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Rhino Bucket, Junkyard, Lizzy Borden, Tyketto, Dirty Looks, Babylon A.D., Gypsy Pistoleros, and Tantric. The Rock Gone Wild! festival just keeps getting better and better!
We must report, as many of you know, that Hanoi Rocks is splitting up at the end of this year. Members Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy feel the band has gone as far as they can take it, so they are going to pursue other avenues. They will finish all the shows that are scheduled for the rest of the year. Plus, they will do a farewell tour in Japan in the spring of 2009, not to mention a few shows at the Tavastia Club in Helsinki, Finland where they got their start back in the 1980's.
They released a "best of" two disk CD set entitles "This One's For Rock 'n' Roll - The Best Of Hanoi Rocks 1980-2008" on November 26th, 2008 so fans can continue to enjoy all the great music they've produced over the years. They will be sorely missed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The 80's metal band KEEL will be reuniting in 2009 to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary. It has been a long 20 years since the classic lineup of KEEL performed together on stage. We here at "Electric Pussycat" have learned that the former drummer and co-founder for 80's glam metal band Loudness, Munetaka Higuchi, passed away yesterday, Nov. 30, 2008. He had been diagnosed with liver cancer. However, despite two rounds of chemotherapy and an operation to remove half of his liver, he did not survive his illness. He was 49 years old. We wish to offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
