We're very happy to be bringing you this interview with Lita Ford, and I want to thank her for her time in completing this interview. With her album, Wicked Wonderland, set for release in less than two weeks, here's what Lita had to say about it and some other subjects:
EP (Electric Pussycat): I know fans are very excited about your upcoming album. What made you
decide to make a new album at this particular point in time?
LF (Lita Ford): My
family was ready! Jim and I got married 15 years ago and decided to
escape the rat race and move to a deserted Caribbean island. We wanted
to raise our boys there. Now that they’re a bit older they actually
wanted me to start rockin’ again!
EP: This is definitely your hardest, most metal, album to date. Was that a
conscious decision, or was it just the way things rolled out as you
started writing the new music?
LF: Well
we just did what was in our hearts. Jim and I wrote everything and
produced it with our friend Greg Hampton. We made the music that we
wanted to and didn’t have anyone but ourselves to answer to! We are the
label, management – hell we’re the boss!
EP: You've said the album is about yourself and your family. Can you
elaborate on that, because it's a very steamy and sexy album?!
LF: It’s
about Jim and I. It’s sort of a sexual biography if you will. We’ve
gotten pretty kinky as our marriage has progressed. 15 years and the
sex is better than ever! Jim’s a wild man – mmmmm!
EP: When you went on hiatus from the music business, you concentrated on
raising your sons. That's very commendable. I did a very similar
thing myself! During all those years, were there times you really
missed making music and performing for audiences, or was it a kind of
"out of sight, out of mind" thing?
LF: A
bit of both. There's nothing as important to us as our family. It’s all
I focused on for years. But both Jim and I have a very special place in
our hearts for music. It’s in our blood and we’re very blessed to be
able to do what we love and do it as a family!
EP: My 16 year old daughter loves to sing and is a great admirer of yours
(she's heard your music from the time she was born through my record
collection). Do you find that you've gained a new generation of fans
at this time?
LF: Absolutely
and I love it. My kids listen to the classics, too! I think it’s awesome
that parents and their kids can rock out together! Good on you!
EP: Part of the reason I started my magazine is because there is a growing
shift in rock 'n roll among those in their late teens to early 20s, a
return to the styles and sounds of the sleazy rock of the late 70s to
early 90s, but in a modern way, and I want to help nurture that seed.
In performing a few shows over the last year or two have you noticed
this shift, and have you been seeing more and more younger fans of 80s
rock?
LF: Yes,
big time. I really think all the video games have helped fuel the fire.
I’m very happy about this – I always knew Rock n Roll would NEVER die!
EP: Back to your new album,Wicked Wonderland, which track is your favorite, or the most meaningful to you, and why?
LF: Don’t have a favorite – I love all the songs but…. The
most meaningful song on the album is called SACRED. Jim wrote it for me
and I feel the same way about him. It’s the story of our love for each
other. We’re
soul mates and I feel like the luckiest woman in the world to have him.
Listen to the lyrics in SACRED and you’ll know he feels the same about
me. You know we only knew each other for 2 weeks before we got married?!?!?
EP: You'll soon be hitting the road to tour with Queensryche, and you will,
of course, be taking your family with you. After growing up on an
island, how big of an adjustment do you think it will be for your boys
to be traveling to all those cities and meeting so many people?
LF: Our boys are amazing young men! They’re Jiu Jitsu teachers, they box, hunt, fish, and are very respectful. They’ve grown up around Rock Stars, Professional MMA Fighters, Pro Boxers, Hunters, etc. They've been all over the world and nothing fazes them. Gee, Mom isn’t proud is she??? They love touring and they love to get home to the islands! They feel at home as long as Mom and Dad are around.
EP: After the Queensryche tour, will you set out on a solo tour or join
another tour to hit the locales you'll be missing on the tour with
Queensryche? (hint, hint - We'd love to see you in Phoenix!)
LF: We’re planning to do 75 shows in 2010 and should be in Phoenix. You better come hang out with us!
EP: The question I'm sure many fans will want to know the answer to is, are
you back for good or is this album and upcoming tour a one shot deal?
LF: Jim is calling this the 10 year plan - So the world will have to endure me for a while longer!
EP: How does it feel to know you've been such a great influence to other
young women who've decided to take on the boys club of rock n' roll and
become singers and musicians themselves?
LF: I love it! I hope I continue to pave the way for women in rock. It’s an honor.
EP: What have been your biggest obstacles as a female in the male dominated
world of rock n' roll musicians, and what advice would you give to
young female rockers who are just starting out?
LF: Lots
of obstacles, but who cares? That’s what life is – a bunch of obstacles.
It’s how you deal with them that makes you or breaks you! Believe in
yourself and keep going. If you love it – do it!
EP: Finally, I'm going to open the floor to you, so to speak, to tell our readers anything you'd like.
LF: I’d
like to thank all of our friends and fans. You’ve blessed us in so many
ways. I hope you get everything you want out of life. It’s so cool to
see our kids getting fan letters - warms my heart. You’ve always been
great to me and now my family - I’ll remember that forever. God bless
