Freakshow
June 25 - July 1, 2009

Freakshow can easily be called a super group. Comprised of vocalist Markus Allen Christopher (Miss Crazy), guitarist Jeff LaBar (Cinderella), drummer Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P.) and Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder, Whitesnake), the band brings together some of the most talented musicians of the 80s along with a superb young rock 'n' roll vocalist.

Freakshow formed in 2008 when vocalist and songwriter Markus, on hiatus from his other band Miss Crazy, asked Jeff to enter the studio with him to work on some new songs he'd been writing. Markus then invited Frankie to join them and then Tony was brought in to round out the group.

Markus, originally from Canada, is the primary songwriter on Freakshow's debut album, although he and Frankie collaborated on a couple of songs. Markus's vocals have been compared to Tom Keifer (Cinderella), Steve Whitman (KIX), Brian Johnson (AC/DC), Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) and even Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). He is a fan of and is influenced by all the great arena rock of the past, especially from the 80s.

Jeff, originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, now residing in Nashville, Tennessee, joined Cinderella back in 1985. As part of that group, one of the best and most popular rock bands of the 80s and early 90s, he toured the world and performed with such other great bands of the day as Poison, David Lee Roth, Bon Jovi and Loudness, and many others, including performances at the famous Monsters of Rock Festivals in England and Germany. A very talented guitar player, Jeff brings his distinctive style to Freakshow.

Frankie is a well respected powerhouse drummer. In addition to his work with Quiet Riot and W.A.S.P., he's been sought out as a studio session drummer by many famous musicians such as, for example, Billy Idol and guitar phenom Gary Hoey. He cites a great variety of influences and has been referred to by Markus as a modern day John Bonham, high praise indeed!

Tony Franklin is well known for playing fretless bass. He's had the great fortune of playing with the legendary Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and Paul Rodgers (Bad Company) when he was a member of The Firm back in the 80s. As a member of Blue Murder he performed with rock giants John Sykes and Carmine Appice. He was also a member of Whitesnake. Also an in demand studio musician, he has worked with other notables like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Kate Bush and Pat Travers, as well as many others. He's released two solo albums and has numerous television credits, too.

With a lineup that brings all this talent together you can't go wrong! If you haven't heard Freakshow's music yet I strongly suggest you give them a listen. In fact, check out Shane's review of their debut CD, and don't miss my interview with Markus. For more about Freakshow go to their MySpace page or website.
