Aces High
"Getting High On Aces High"

Hailing from the dog-eat-dog world of Southern California comes the band Aces High. Driven by classic rock and the current state of the world, the band has a statement to make, with fist pumping music, and driving songs.

With the clean, for the most part, vocals from AJ Anagnos, and the Eddie Van Halen like lead abilities of Tyler Holsclaw, the two provide the face for the music. Followed up by the pulse of John Anagnos on drums and Kevin Kontz on the bass. The four piece has youth on their side, and the fearlessness of saying what is wrong in the world.

The band, which just got done recording with Geza X, who recorded Black Flag, Dead Kennedy’s and The Germs, look to storm out of the gates with their new album, featuring a sound that is reminiscent of the early days of Iron Maiden, which can be heard on their song, “On Thin Ice,” which has a driving beat that will get you up and moving.

Having a modernized New Wave Of British Heavy Metal sound isn’t all that the band brings. They also have that nitty-gritty sound that was popularized by bands from the Sunset Strip in the early 80’s. That sound is ever so present on the track “Where’s The World Now.” The song brings up a good point about the uncertainty of the world, and is the current direction of the world the best?

Aces High are still a young band and have a lot of growing to do. Remember, Def Leppard had their EP, which they sounded nothing like a short five years later. They are not a band to pass on, those who are fans of NWOBHM will like this band. The album is set to come out Sunday, June 21st at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills at the Bubble Festival.

Alley Sin is off to a fantastic start with this EP. As I've said before, they are one of my favorite up and coming bands. I suppose the reason their music appeals to me so much is that their influences include some of my favorite bands, and those influences can be heard in their songs. You can hear strains of early Faster Pussycat, combined with Hanoi Rocks, the New York Dolls and even The Dogs D'amour throughout their music.

All three songs on this release rock! Alley Sin artfully distills glam and sleaze into the perfect rock 'n' roll cocktail. It's a cocktail that will satisfy any true rock music aficionado's thirst for real rock 'n' roll. Therefore, I suggest everyone take a big swig of Alley Sin!

Their CD is now available. For more information and to hear their music, visit the band's MySpace page. Also, don't miss my article about and my interview with Alley Sin, if you haven't read them already.
