Lita Ford is back, baby, and more bad-ass than ever! The aptly dubbed “Queen of Heavy Metal” is once again proving why she is the most successful female metal artist of all time. With a killer new album due out and an upcoming tour with Queensryche, Lita is set to return to the world of hard rock like a hurricane.
We here at Electric Pussycat Magazine couldn't be more pleased to be featuring Lita at this time. Personally, I've been a huge fan since the 80s, and the torch has been passed with my daughter becoming a fan, as well.

Lita has had a long and colorful career. She began playing guitar at age 11 and joined The Runaways in 1975 at the age of 17 as the band's lead guitarist. The all female band also included Joan Jett. For those who have access to the VH1 Classics channel, you can still see videos of The Runaways from time to time!
In 1979 The Runaways disbanded and Lita embarked on her solo career. By 1983 Lita released her first album, Out for Blood. It didn't fare too well on the charts, but Lita didn't let that slow her down. The following year she released Dancin' on the Edge. With this release she started making a name for herself, and the album did fairly well on the charts. The single “Gotta Let Go” from this album became one of Lita's biggest hits, and earned her a number one spot on the Mainstream Rock charts.
After a switch from Mercury to RCA Records, and with Sharon Osbourne as her manager, Lita released her most successful record, Lita, in 1988. The album produced four hit songs, “Kiss Me Deadly”, “Back To The Cave”, the haunting duet she did with Ozzy Osbourne, “Close My Eyes Forever”, and the song she co-wrote with Nikki Sixx, “Falling In And Out Of Love”. “Close My Eyes Forever” became her only song to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list, climbing to number eight. In addition, Lita achieved Platinum status in the U.S.
Lita was followed up with the album Stiletto in 1990, which included the singles “Hungry” and “Lisa”. However, this album did not do as well on the charts as the previous two. Then, with the rise of grunge, Lita's two final releases, until now, Dangerous Curves (1991) and Black (1995) fared even worse. The single “Shot Of Poison” from Dangerous Curves was her last to make it onto the charts.
During the 80s Lita's pop-metal songs earned her Grammy nominations, along with many other honors, including seven Metal Edge Readers Choice Awards and her induction into Circus magazine's Hall of Fame, where she is the only female listed.
As it happened with most rockers of the 80s to early 90s era, the rise of grunge led to the decline of their careers. Lita was no exception. She was forced into early “retirement”, so to speak, although she had also become burnt out by the music business. Speaking about the effects of grunge, in June of this year Lita told Unrated Magazine, "It's like 'metal' was a dirty word."......"But I think that's why I disappeared; I just kind of stuck my head in the sand. I didn't want to know what was going on, I stopped watching MTV and I stopped listening to the radio, I just didn't want to be a part of that whole grunge thing. Which, it kind of added a whole different dimension to rock and roll; even the rock and rollers who are coming back now have a whole different dimension to them. But, I don't know, grunge just kind of scared me away. Like, do you work at a gas station or are you a rock star? I can't tell."
So, after the release of Black Lita took a hiatus from the music business. She concentrated on her family. She and her husband, Jim Gillette, formerly of the band Nitro, bought a house on a Carribean island where they've been raising their two sons, James and Rocco, teaching them to live off the land, hunting, fishing and growing their own food. After the turmoil of 9/11, she and Jim decided they want their sons to be able to take care of themselves in case something happens. Lita began home-schooling her boys, trading her guitars for textbooks.
Then, in July 2008 Lita performed on stage for the first time in 15 years when she played at the Rocklahoma festival. She had been waiting for the music industry to be ready for her to come back, and it looked like the time was finally right. As we know here at EP, glam and sleaze is returning! So, thankfully, Lita is returning, too. Her new album, Wicked Wonderland, is complete and set for release on October 6th, 2009. This is great news for Lita's fans, as is the fact that she will also be heading out on tour in support of her new album, first with Queensryche this fall, with more dates to follow into 2010. We here at Electric Pussycat wish her great success now and in the future!
